I know that the shape of the FFR Coupe is fairly different than the original six, and I’ve also been seeing a fair amount of bother and hassle regarding fuel tank fitments. However, I really love the way the originals had a belly pan painted with stripes like the top. Would it be possible to have this on my build, dya think?

Well that depends. How are your fabrication skills? ;)

Yeah, I guess that’s the bottom line, eh? I’ll keep an eye out for any images that might warn me of something that might prevent it, but I’m certain I’m capable to cut and rivet a sheet of aluminum down there.

There is a rear belly now. Not the best pic but you can see it.

But unless you are at a very low angle looking at it you really can't see it.

Thanks Scott! Yeah - it’s well hidden. I guess that’s down to the FFR design changes. But it’s good to know it’s there - at least I’ll see it on the lift!

Do you have pics on the installation of your tow hooks?

Steve's Stupid Suggestions:
> Get a custom fuel tank built that doesn't hang down.
> Then purchase some C-Flex and create a custom rear belly piece.
> C-Flex is used to build one off boats, custom fiberglass pieces and boat mold plugs.
> A few pieces would all that you'd need to build the perfect part for the tail of your Daytona.

On the Gen 3 Coupe the gas tank sits higher in the frame than in the older models so it is not really visible unless the car is on a lift. The body hides it well.

The tow hooks location is also a jack point. This is a Gen 1 Coupe. It would also apply to a Gen 2. The bottom metal under fuel cell from the bottom rear of lower A-arm bolts and outer inside location unbolt to drop fuel cell if needed.

Leave the stock rear belly pan in it's current configuration, you do not want to extend it further forwards. I know this from my time with the prototype spyder, which had a full belly pan almost to the rear differential area. Around town, it was fine, at or above highway speeds, and it caught air, causing the rear quarters to expand and contract as air was trapped, then burped out. I cut a good portion of it off, almost to the point the new coupe body shows today.

I actually thought about the danger of air trapping, but I actually want to enclose the entire underside like the OG race cars.

If you can enclose it completely so that air does not get trapped behind the rear axle assembly, go for it. If not, then you are not going to like the micro cracks that will form as the quarter panels and belly pan breath out, then in, over and over and over again in a rhythmic fashion. You won't see or feel it in the cockpit, but those behind you will get freaked out and flag you down. My trip to Carlisle to show the road worthy car off was an eye opener oh so many years ago.
