Looking at the parts of the FFR steering shaft that I can see in build pics, it looks pretty much like a steel rod.

69 Corvette shafts, IIRC, have a crumple zone built into the column so that, in the event of a collision, the driver inst impaled on a metal rod.

I’m curious if there’s any safety engineering in the FFR column? Is it really just a solid metal rod??

BTW, this also brings me to wonder about the collision safety of the car as a whole. What if a FFR coupe were one of the cars in this video? Doom, I’d guess?

lol, is there ANY car you'd want to be in, between a concrete wall and a semi?

but of course, you're right, there are no "crumple zones" in these cars. No air bags either :)

The steering shaft is two piece double D…male and female. It will collapse with the male section sliding into the female.
