Does anyone know if FFR has upgraded the kit-supplied filler neck grommet? I'm reading several posts that are 3 or 4 years old that say the kit-supplied grommet should be replaced with Ford OEM F4ZZ-9072-DA to prevent leaking. I'm looking at the OEM part online, and it looks just like the grommet that came with my kit, delivered in July of this year.
Thanks,
Greg

At the recommendation of many I upgraded mine to the Ford OEM part. I received my kit December 20th and it was the standard one that FFR supplies. Didn’t want to take the chance that it may have an issue.

Gotcha. I'll do the same, for peace of mind. Thanks, John!

Out of curiosity, was the OEM part visually identical to the kit-supplied part?

I don't really remember; I think the OEM part had the part number embossed in it and had a different feel to it but basically put it in when it arrived and didn't compare it too much to the kit one.

Yes it looks identical, I changed mine as well.

FFR kit provided seal is inferior in quality compared to OEM and is known to crack very easily/early. Tank starts leaking with more than 1/2 tank or when cornering hard. Visually, they look identical.

My suggestion would be to use the FFR-provided seal for initial assembly, and then swap in the OEM Ford seal for your final assembly after paint. Most people install the filler neck tube when they install the gas tank, and the filler neck tube then rests, largely unsupported except perhaps for some duct tape or other temporary means, resting on that seal. IMO, that can't be good for the seal. Let the cheap FFR seal take all that abuse, and then when you're ready to put the LeMans cap on and plumb the filler neck properly but the OEM seal in.

I know there have been many complaints and reports of the supplied grommet leaking and I don’t doubt them but for what it’s worth I have used that on every complete kit roadster and Coupe that I’ve built and have never had one leak.
