I'm building a Cobra, but have been following the 818 project. (who knows, maybe when I'm done......)

Anyway, saw the new Porsche 918 Spyder "Hybrid" and immediately thought this would make a cool 818 candidate.

Porsche 918 Spyder - Most Expensive Production Hybrid Ever (http://www.automedia.com/blog/post/Video-Porsche-918-Spyder-Most-Expensive-Production-Hybrid-Ever.aspx?gclid=CKrUw5Gxt60CFQQCQAod2AJynw)

doesn't $850k kinda defeat the purpose of owning a hybrid?? I don't think the article ever says what kind of mileage it gets. "with a 16-mile electric-only range" seriouslly???

If the 818 looks like that FFR will sell thousands and I guarantee that there will be at least one in my garage.

I'm pretty sure the 918 is what originally inspired the 818. I doubt that FFR would make it look like the Porsche for legal reasons though. It is a beautiful car.

Yep, that's a good looking car. (although, not a fan of the side exhausts on it. rear exhaust would have been a better option)

Just occured to me. This is an option FFR could use to make the 818 4wd and a Hybrid! Subie in the rear and Electro up front. Worked for Porsche!

Sorry guys. It sounds like you have missed a lot of the conversation so far.
There is one very nice design that just barely hints at this car and FF won't touch it. At least not until the first 818 design is a hit. Look at the Vantage design thread:

Dave has specifically said that he does NOT want a journalist calling the 818 a replica. It will be a completely original design. No baby 918s.

I'll bet FFR and Dave want the 818 to have the same hof level as the 918 but at 1/10th the cost that will be quite an accomplishment IMO!!! WEK.

Yeah, either way, I want F5 to produce something original, and I know Dave does as well, especially considering how much he's spent defending his business. While he may have won against <snip>, you can say he still lost in some respect, given the legal cost (hint: rhymes with one million + USD):

Two percent of $850,000 is $17,000. The target price of an entry level 818 is $15,000 completed, or 1.76% of 850K. You could theoretically build (56) - 818's for the cost of one 918 hybrid and still have $10,000 left over.

Even if you figure $20,000 for the electric motor, batteries and controller, you could build (24) - hybrid 818's for a mere $840K.

There's an idea. I could build two, and sell one for $420K, and make $350,000. Not even bank robbers get that kind of R.O.I. :D

Realistically the 818 will look somewhat like the Porsche 918 no matter what because of the layout and size of the vehicles.
If anything the 918 looks like the last gen Toyota MR2 Spyder which happens to look like an updated Porsche 914.
You could probably throw some Corvair design ques in there too.

hmm not sure about that. i see your point but to me it sounds as if someone would say the smart roadster was supposed to be an updated fiat x19...
to me the 918 is much more organic&flowing than the mr2. in contrast to that the mr2 is geometric&boxy.. and this is not related to scale. therfor i do see an issue with an approach to use/transfer the 918 style onto the 818.

That Porsche is one sexy beast, with a very high HOF quotient!!

I agree that the 818 will not mimic the Porsche. However, I have confidence in the HOF factor for the 818, and know that it too will be a sexy beast!!

I can't wait to see the final version!!

Steve
