Headers and Gaskets

Ok folks,

Now that the engine and transmission are installed -- a couple of hours with my step son and in place--

Now to the next task of installing the headers and scraping some knuckles. I have read much debate about gaskets and gasket maker material. Before I head in one direction (store) or stay with the gaskets I have for the engine, please provide input as to pros and cons of gasket and copper based adhesive for the headers. Would like to make a decision by Monday.

Similar to that question is the header bolts (locking or thread locker) and which bolts to use.

I prefer the proper Remflex brand gaskets and Stage 8 locking header bolts.

You’ll get all sorts of opinions on this. I went with Remflex gaskets and Stage8 bolts on the headers. On the side pipe flanges I went with ultra copper RTV (no gasket) and brass double nuts with ultra copper RTV on the bolt threads as a thread locker.

Hey Bill,

Slightly off-topic, but I noticed you have a Forte' engine like mine :)

Any fitment issues so far? How are you going to route your fuel lines? I was considering reversing the rail junctions on the intake manifold so the the feed line was near the rear of the engine...

No issues with fitment and went right in with little bit of sweat. I added the driveshaft once we were under the firewall and used a jack to support the transmission. The longest time was used shifting the engine side to side to get the bolts and guide pins located. Take your time and step back a few times and all will work out. Once the engine is set the driveshaft easily was bolted to the rear transmission. I did use Forte's spacers for the rear transmission. Using two people made it a breeze.

I will look at fuel Ines tomorrow, but with a 180 fitting coming from the Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 back to the fuel regulator, I do not think that is much of an issue. I did change out the fittings on the regulator to go with my PTFE lines (6AN ORB).
