I may have a brake switch that's failing intermittently. Is that the normal failure mode, or when they fail do they just stop working altogether?

Also, my current brake switch is an ACDELCO D855 with the two spade connectors at the back of the barrel. Is that still the recommended part? Or should I go to the style provided with the newer kits (with the four spade connectors perpendicular to the axis of the barrel (need a model number for that one)?

The newer style is only needed if you use a lock-up torque converter or cruise control, but can be used. Just use the pair of spades that are normally open for brake lights or depress clutch to start it using a manual trans.
