Is anyone running the new TKX transmission with the Mark IV.I have the 351 HP block with standard motor mounts.
The transmission mount will not sit on the frame. I tried moving the frame mount. but in order for the mount to sit on the metal frame, you have to add shims so that the tail
would not rest on the round frame in the rear.
Anyone having these issues?
Is it ok to shim the trans mount? wandering if there are any pinion angle issue by doing that.
Thanks, Ernie

This is the spacer I required for a TKO and SBF 347. Maybe slightly different with the TKX but I had no problems with pinion angle.

Mike Forte sells a shimming kit. Sounds like that's what you need.

I think most with the SBF (351 at least) use a 3/4 to 1" spacer. I started with 3/4, but after doing my pinion angle setup, I finished with a 7/8" inch spacer.

So I've heard of two potential "fitment" issues that you can have with the TKX when paired with a 351 block (which is the same combination I have so I've been through this myself). The first is the spacers as has been discussed above to get the right elevation - which I, too, had to use to get the right height for pinion angle. The second is the transmission sub-frame part that attaches to the 4" tubes. There is a skinnier version that you need to use for the TKX otherwise there will be interference issues. I'm happy to measure mine (and show you how I measured it) to figure out what version you have. I actually had to go back to FFR and ask them to send me a new one because I had the older TKO style which is a bit fatter and will hit the bottom of the transmission if you don't swap it out.
Not sure exactly which one you are addressing in your comment but wanted to bring both up.

Regardless of trans, it has been very common over the years to need a 1/2" to 1" spacer under the trans.

Yep. Same for my BPE 347 and TKX.

Perfect because I had to add 1/2 spacer just to clear the round tube behind the transmission.

Off subject here, 2 things.....
1) Who sells the ss side exhaust that will bolt up to the factory location? Compared to FFR are they as loud and are they the same length?
2) How do you add the information about your car at the bottom left of your post? I can't seem to find out how to do it.

1.) Check out Gas-n pipes - https://www.gas-n.com/collections/side-pipes/products/factory-five-polished-stainless-steel-sidepipes
I have heard they are a bit quieter. They offer a couple different selections.
2.) Edit your signature. It's under "Settings" on your account. There is a minimum number of posts required before you can generate a signature. Sorry, can't remember the number.

I believe I actually emailed and they forwarded it to me that way. I don't have it in front of me now but will take a look after work and private message it over to you.

For the first - I second Gas-N, Georgie does a great job and the welds/quality are top notch. Also nice that they have three sound levels for you to choose from (and from what I am told will last forever given they are 100% stainless throughout).

I spoke to him Friday and he is sending down a set of steel pipes for me to use for building the headers so that his SS pipes will bolt up perfectly to them!
Thanks for all your help!

If it's a 351W block, why does Georgie need special fitment for headers? What heads do you have?

I swapped the 302 block, for the 351block going from a TKO to a TKX and there was no modification needed. There is a tab on the bottom of the trans back close to the mount that has to be removed. When I bought the original 347 engine and trans combo form Blueprint they cut this tab off for you.

I also have 7/8" of spacers under the rear trans mount with the 351 block, but I had the same on the 302 block. There was no difference in mounting those two engines.

I have a set of TFS High Port Heads and there are no headers for this car with 2" primaries...he said since I was going to use his SS pipes that he would send me a set to use for mock up so there are no fitment issues with his new pipes later on.

There was a small tab where the emergency brake goes that I cut off with a saw zaw but that is not the one I am talking about. I will take some pics today for you.
