Hello,

If I go with the Ford donor pedal box instead of the Wildwood (I heard it's necessary for power brakes) do I need to tell FFR? Will they need to ship different DS footbox aluminum panel/s?

Thank you.

FFR will provide Wilwood and Ford pedal box aluminum panels with complete kits. I used a hydroboost brake system from Mike Forte which allowed me to use the Wilwood pedal box. Mike modifies the brake pedal to work with the Wilwood box - works great. Also, the hydroboost system I got from him did not require me to do any modification to the elephant ear panel (i.e. the dual master cylinder did not need a cutout). The hydroboost is great and I would do it again. However, it is pricey.

The only difference is the DS footbox front aluminum panel. They used to supply both the Wilwood and donor (Mustang) versions. Not sure they do any more. You may want to check if you stay with the Mustang pedal box. The difference is the Mustang version has a hole for the master cylinder and a different location for the clutch cable.

As already stated, the Wilwood pedal box can be modified to support power brakes. Not that difficult. You do lose the front/back balance bar function. On the plus side, the Wilwood pedal box is more adjustable plus easily accommodates a hydraulic clutch if that's in your plan.

I fully agree with James and Paul on the front footbox panel when you order. Like Mike E. and I described to you at FFR night at Patriot Place if you are going to use a cable clutch and power brakes the donor pedal box works very well. Hydroboost or a simple Mustang power brake booster is easy to do when building the car.

Thank you guys. Your responses clarify it for me.

A new question, if I loose the balance bar function, there must be another way of balancing front:rear brakes?

I will confirm with FFR if they still supply both DS front footbox panels.

I received my Complete Kit in July of this year. It only came with the Wilwood-specific front panel on the DS footbox. Definitely want to confirm with FFR.

The same with mine - Wilwood only.

I guess FFR has changed things since I received my kit in 2021 - thanks for the clarification.

With regards to balancing front/rear power brakes, Wilwood has an adjustable valve you can add if you use the Wilwood dual master cylinder. Here is my setup:

The balancer has the rotary knob.

Thank you for the photo, James. I might have to check back in with you when I'm in that stage of my build. :)

You can use the wilwood front aluminum panel with the mustang pedal box. You just need to drill a couple of holes. No big deal. They no longer supply both.

Be aware that the valve James uses can only reduce the braking of whichever circuit it is installed on. And that generally it is not recommended to install it on the front circuit. Another option to adjust bias is to stagger pad compounds. Way back when I used to run Hawk HPS on the front and HP+ on the rear. HP+ has a higher friction but dusts more. Other manufacturers also have various compounds available.

Thank you for this tidbit, that's important to know!

BTW, I graduated from VT.
