I have been messing with my trunk latch for a couple of days and I'm having an issue that I'm hoping someone has already solved.
I know alot of people have changed out to a ubolt design, but I'd like to keep the straight bolt.

Everything is assembled and tightened down on the trunk, and I have the rubber gasket in place. When the handle is almost horizontal the
trunk lid shifts to the right a 1/4".

This is a MK4 and my latch swings clockwise (hook on the latch faces the left side when the latch is engauged).

I think that the little hump on the latch could be shaved down to fix the problem..not sure.

Suggestions? Did I confuse everyone?

I have the same problem, and believe that grinding out a slight amount from the hook part of the latch, is what others have done to prevent that issue. There were some threads on the FFCars forum regarding this over the years.

As an aside, slipping a piece of rubber vacuum hose over the striker pin, will help prevent rattles. Since your pin is in position already, you could slit some hose lengthwise and slip it over the pin. I found that was a good tip.:)

Had the same issue, did a little grinding and welding on the latch and works great.

Thanks guys, I'm going to go get the die grinder out for a little surgery!

I had the same problem. I installed a reinforcing plate under the aluminum and did the U-bolt mod. I think it looks better than the sleeve/bolt and is adjustable. My trunk lid closes solid and straight now.
