View Full Version : Ride height adjustment questions

After a couple of seasons of driving I've noticed that my ride height is a bit lower than I originally had it. Not sure if this is due to the suspension settling or because my Koni shocks were missing the adjustment ring set screws.

Questions:

1. Can I adjust the ride-height with weight on wheels on the ground? I believe my kit came with an adjustment tool, and I assume the only reason they give you that is so that you can adjust it with weight on the suspension? First time I adjusted them was by jacking it up every time— and it was a pain...
2. Does anyone happen to know of a source to get the set screws for the adjustment ring? Normally I'd just find some set screws from a local hardware store, but I did have one screw and I noticed it had a nylon point on it— my guess is to prevent buggering the threads on the adjustment sleeve?
3. What ride height are you all generally running? I think I remember I originally planned for 4-4.5" but curious what others think (road driving only).

I have the standard single adjustable shocks. Thanks in advance!

Edit: I did find this post https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?33880-Koni-set-screws which seems to say that the set screws aren't really needed— which is kind of what I suspected when I originally worked on it.

yeah, most recommend throwing away those set screws to avoid buggering up your threads on the shocks.
jack up one side as a time and you should be able to turn the collars by hand or w/ a spanner wrench.

you have to jack it up to move the adjusters. But unless you are bottoming out why change the ride height? I have mine about 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 inches. It's low but clears most speed bumps around here

Yea. I just adjusted mine. Spanner wrench makes it easier. You may not be able to turn them without jacking up. Manual calls for 4.5" I set mine at 5". But, I live in Pennsylvania. Land of potholes.

Changes in ride height will change alignment settings. If the car was aligned at a certain ride height and it then settles, you can either reset the ride height back to what it was, or redo the alignment.
