SpeedStar hood side panels

The side panels fit GREAT!
Almost zero trimming, goes in and out around the suspension easily.
Fastens to the grill easily
Fastens to the cowl easily (3 bonded bolts on each side)
But how does it fasten in the middle?
Just supports itself?

There are no SpeedStar specific instructions that I have found.

Anyone put one together yet?

I am just about ready to start fitting the side panels on my Speedstar, glad to hear they do not require a lot of trimming.

As far as I know there is no connection in the middle.

So is the chin piece specific to the Speedstar or is it the same as the regular '33? While I've read about the regular side panels being long and needing to be trimmed, I think most of the consternation n the front end is related to the chin piece. This goes under the radiator and ties the lower body pieces together.

In my Speedstar kit the chin piece is "split" along the vehicle centerline with the two halves being part of the two hood side covers. If you were to join the two sides together you wouldn't be able to get the whole thing off.

I plan to make a strap that ties the two sides together for added support. I am going to go ahead and fit the side panels but I like the look with out them and may not put them on after paint. I have been putting miles on the car without them.

I've been looking for a rubber "H" molding to fit in between the two chin edges. I was thinking I would use that along with something to hold the two against each other.

When I get to that point LOL. Something like this:

A lot better engine cooling with out the side covers (even if the side has small openings in it like the Buick ventiports in mine), that's for sure....
