What would be the best heat insulation I can use in the engine compartment of my mk4 roadster. Any input would be appreciated.

Most insulate the inside of the foot boxes with heat/sound insulation under the carpet. This includes peel and stick products like fatmat, kilmat, koolmat or spray on stuff like lizardskin. You can make a heat shield with a stand off fit the front of the footbox wall, especially if you have long tube headers that come close. I’ve also seen a gold foil adhesive that you can stick to the front wall next to the headers. Sealing off the space between the body and frame also cuts down in a lot of heat in the cockpit

Hey Cleve,

I used two methods and after 1500 miles riding in the Summer heat, I am very happy with the results. I used Cool-It sound/heat shield, but honestly, I think any brand will do; my other solution was the extra aluminum heat shields I put on the foot boxes. I used rivnuts as stand-offs and made sure I has about a 1/4" to 3/8" gap to hold out the heat. Again, very happy with the results and I think it looks great too.

No real "best" solution here. There are lots of ways to skin this cat. I used Lizard Skin spray on heat and sound insulation in the cockpit, and I also used DEI heat shield around the foot boxes. I used the stainless steel heat shields in the areas where it would be visible, and the aluminum version in areas where it would not be visible (outer footbox walls).

and many will also chime in that most of the heat isn't coming from the engine bay, once properly insulated, but rather from the big burning ball of gas in the sky.

Just used thermo tec and carpet. As previously mentioned, sealing the space between the body and framesl/footboxes alis key. Before I did that the heated air would enter the footboxes and cockpit. Nomissies since.

I used products from Second Skin. All inside the cockpit. Damplifier Pro for vibration control, Luxury Liner for heat protection. And - blocking off the hot air from engine into cockpit using the foam AC unit 2x2 stuff.

Thermo-Tec & carpet - also - REFLECTEX® & carpet depending on location.
