View Full Version : Passenger side footbox floor & outer panel rivet to round outrigger tube?

Hey Y'all,

I'm finally getting around to fitting my Passenger-side footbox Aluminum panels. Booooy...is it a compromise! Generally fits well, but relying on the factory speed-screw holes can lead you astray...

I'm really happy with the fit since I ignored some of those holes, but now have a question: Does the passenger footbox floor panel rivet to BOTH the outer footbox panel AND the round outrigger frame tube or do ONLY the panels get riveted together there?

Appreciate the feedback!

Craig C

PS: The Driver's side footbox floor/outside panel edge doesn't seem to be close to its outrigger tube, so I'll just drill/rivet only the panels there...

I riveted the passenger foot box floor to both the aluminum panels and the round tube. I used long-ish 1/8" rivets; the regular short rivets don't have enough reach to go through the round tube.

I did panel to panel only. Broke off a lot of buts trying to drill into the tube at a slightly off angle

I riveted both panels to the round tube. Don't forget to silicone.
The PS chassis tube exits the front of the footbox, there is a gap between the tube and the Aluminium, I've seen a couple of ways others have closed this gap. I dug out a picture of how I did it. Use'd a Cheerios box to make a template of two halves, used some .40 AL, cut, fit, siliconed and riveted. Then applied AL tape on the inside just to be sure. Maybe you already have this covered but I figured I'd share.

Thanks John, Chewy, and Jeff for the replies :)

I'll eventually be putting in some sound damping / heat reflective mats inside, then I'll plan on the "usual" carpet installation there. I'll check the fit of the carpet to see if it is supposed to go under that outrigger tube next...

What I'm finding is the Build Manual leaves out a lot of integration detail -- I suppose they want everyone to make mistakes and learn on their own? I know the value of this Forum, and understand that FFR has made on going improvements because of this Forum -- you can clearly see the design changes over the years just by looking at the Build Manual pictures (E.G.: chassis design under the floor pans), but it would be nice to have some reasons stated in the Build Manual for some things...anyway...done with my rant...time to get back to work!
