View Full Version : T5 Pops Out of 5th and 3rd.

I purchased the car used. I have a MkIV with a (I believe) T5. When not under load, the XMSN MIGHT pop out of 5th, and 3rd. Under steady state driving, it is ok. A bump in the road may also cause it. T5 does not have adjustable stops? Could it just be the boot? Less than 8000 miles, behind a 302. I would hope it isn't something more serious.

I used to have a T5 before I switched to AOD. I had problems with it jumping out of 1st. It was the stiff rubber boot from FF causing the problem. I had a Viper shifter with the S10 tail-house mod on the T5. I used an inverted boot from an Austin Healey 3000 to fix it

Not uncommon for it to be the boot. Take it loose and see if it still happens.

Well, first I'd determine if your problem is being caused by the rubber boot.

Check boot first as mentioned, and not sure if you're asking if the T5 has adj. stops or not. Answer is no, but, it could have an aftermarket shifter that does.

I trimmed a significant amount of aluminum sheet metal from around the shifter opening. I drove around with the boot removed, and noticed the shifter was making contact with the aluminum. The opening was a "hack job"...not s nice cut with a hole saw. I made the hole significantly larger, with tin snips. Fingers crossed it is fixed now.
