I was bliinded by the light...

As Queen says it... I was blinded by the light... and that's what happens at night when someone is behind me! Headlights in my rearview mirror.
I've put, thin socks, window tint, and other unusual items over the mirror to try to mute the light but haven't figured out a good idea. I do tilt the mirror up but, then I can see behind me so I don't like that easy option.
I was wondering what others have done creatively to tone down headlights in the rear mirror.

I've run into that as well. My solution was to just tilt the mirror so the glare isn't hitting me in the eyes. With no top on the car, I feel there's enough visibility with just turning my head to see what's to my right and also use the side mirror for the left side of the car. The last option is to just accelerate and make the headlights small enough not to be an issue. I've never tried socks or window tint.

yea, the tilt action is what I do now, but.. I'm still looking for something I can easily slip over it for night drives. My mirror tends to get loose over time the more I move it. You know these cars the less you mess with it the less things break! LOL
May sound weird but I tried a women's nylon, no-show socking. It fit snug on the mirror, and you could not tell what it was (thank god) and it did not blow off. However, it's too thin and still lets in too much light.

would love feedback! when these cars were built in the 60's there were no XENON, LED or Laser headlights around :)

My self dimming mirrors are never enough for glare. My older cars have a dim tab at the bottom.
The dim tab technology is two parallel reflectors, the mirror behind and tinted(?) glass in front of the mirror. The dim tab tilts the mirror up to reflect light onto the headliner. Now the rear view is reflected off the (front) glass.
Not a perfect solution.

I just got a mirror from Amazon that had day-night function. Glued it to the windshield and moved on. FFR mirror is sitting in a box somewhere
