Can anyone tell me the length between the front and rear body buck cutouts to support the body? I plan to hang the body from the garage ceiling. Great to have a 10’ high ceiling in the garage! This will leave room for my wife’s car out of the Ohio weather. Would like to have the buck ready when the car arrives.
Any recommendations on insurance carriers for comprehensive during the build and complete coverage when ready for the road? Not sure what year the car will be titled as in Ohio if that makes a different to insurance companies. Our insurer-State Farm, told me they can’t insure kit cars for the road.
Appreciate the FFR forum to receive great information. Love reading through the build threads.
Kit will be complete on 9/30/2023. Final payment made. Waiting to hear from Steward Trans about delivery date.

I recently debated whether to build a buck or use another method to hang. I ended up getting 2 kayak hoist pulleys for not much $ and it has worked great. Plus side is once the car is done I still have something that could be used for another purpose.

In Ohio you have to title it as the year on your MOC. Mine’s titled as a 2019. I’m insured through State Farm so I’m not sure what your agent is telling you. I can give you the name of my agent if you want to PM me

I'm insured through USAA, But I had a quote from Statefarm as well for agreed value. Not sure why your agent is telling you that. As far as comp during build, check with your agent but your home owners should cover it.. right now its just 'stuff' so no different than any other personal property in your home and subject to your home owners limits/deductible. Mine (USAA) said I was covered until it got titled/registered then it became a Car and would need a separate policy.

You were told wrong. I'm insured with State Farm as are several of my friends. Methinks you need to find an agent who is better informed.

Regarding thinking your homeowners insurance will cover fire or theft during the build, verify with your agent and get the answer in writing. State Farm here in Arizona does not cover garage contents beyond about $5K. I added a specific rider to my policy just to cover my tools let alone the car. I use Robbin at Midwest to cover my projects during construction. He wrote policies for my MK4 and now my Boss 302 tribute under construction.

How did you attach the kayak hoist to the body? I am considering the same method of overhead body storage but need to insure the body does not distort over time. Thanks!

I have a stated value policy with American Collectors Insurance for another vehicle and I checked with them on my MK4 build. They told me they would insure when the car is 60% complete. I got a price of $195 / year for 45k value and $526 for 60k value. I'm checking with my HO insurance company to get a rider to cover the first 6 months or so.
My kit was completed last week! Waiting for Stewart to schedule my delivery. Christmas in September!

I used the kayak hangers as well. built the buck and extended the 2x4s a little to hang it from. When I was ready to work on the body i cut the extra off and put some casters on it.

Rick,
I am new to the Forum. Just picked up my Kit FFR last week and made a simplified Body Buck with single lift position so I can slide along the ceiling on a trolley with electric wench. worked great. see photo.190010

A second for American Collectors. USAA has a agreement with them and the agreed on value is $60k and with full insurance including liability it's a little over $500 per year.

I had American Collectors through USAA as well. Year 1 was $800 a year (2500 mile a year limit). NY tends to be more expensive than other states. Year 2 that went up to $1000, I switched to Hagerty and it is now $500 a year, no mileage limit.

Rick:
I have never had any luck with State Farm here in Ohio, maybe it is an agent related situation. Last year had American Collectors, but went with American Modern this year. Was greatly surprised at the reduction in cost.

It looks like the good news is if one of the insurance companies gets crazy with their prices there's others that saves money. I have had airplane insurance before and that goes from affordable to insanity pretty quick.

I pay more for my aviation rental policy than I do for my mk4. Pretty sad

Well, I'm officially very bad at monitoring my forum notifications - sorry for the delay!!
Here are a few pictures of my set-up - ignore the terrible drywall seams on my ceiling. On the rear, I used the roll bar holes and ran it through the wheel wells. On the front, I just ran it under the wheel wells. To prevent distortion, I used a few 2x4s cut to size in the cockpit to keep the shape / gap as close as it was when I measured it on the car on delivery. There are a number of folks who have used similar-ish methods and had the body suspended for a long time with no issues.

Thanks for the photo. Looking to exclude the body buck and attach the straps like you did.

Thanks for the photo. Looking to exclude the body buck and attach the straps like you did.
These bodies are very flexible, i originally had it held by just the straps and after a month noticed it starting to form a new shape from the straps pulling on the outsides and the trunk sagging. I knew I'd need a buck eventually so just went ahead and built it so the body has a much more rigid form to rest on.
