I plan on getting the floor mats, but what is everyone doing to protect the carpet by the gas pedal on the side of the of foot box. I know I saw a photo of what looked like a nice vinyl pad, but I can't find the photo.

Any ideas, input, or photos?

I found my (donor) pedal quite close to the footbox side. I made a small aluminum piece (approx 5"x5") and poprivetted it to the footbox side adjacent to the pedal to eliminate any chance of the pedal getting snagged by carpet.

I don't think you really need anything there - mine has no wear in that location and I can't really see any major reason to "protect" it there.

Custom cut some diamond plate from home depot for the protectors. I have some access to production aftermarket stuffb but for the cost you can cut to fit your own easilly. Hows the car running now Al ?

Mark, AKA MustangMan probably is where you saw the photos, if you want a pad, any of the vendors who sell carpet also sell heel pads that you can glue in place.

I thought I got mine from Miamicorp, but don't see them on the site right now, but here are some from Perfect Fit.

Al, I added a black vinyl piece on the side of the footbox by the go pedal to avoid getting my shoe sole caught, but maybe it will also avoid carpet wear. I just did not want to have any obstruction pushing or releasing the accelerator so this way my shoe slides easily on the footbox wall. It is actually just cut from a black plastic binder cover from Staples glued to the aluminum with Weldwood Contact Cement.

Similar to Pete, I had rubber protection pads bonded in to the carpet. Both underfoot and on accelerator pedal side wall:

I had it done to both the floor carpeting AND the AC floor mats I got from ********** (just in case I didn't want to run the mats).

Thanks for the photos and replys.

Canuck1: Thats exactually what I'm looking for.
How did you bond them to the carpet?
What sizes do you have, and would you got to a different size if you were to do it again?

I confess I didn't install the pads myself. Once the floor and footbox carpet was positioned and trimmed (not yet glued down), I took it to a local automotive upholstery shop and asked them to add the pads. I chalked in roughly where my foot rested, provided lots of photos, a description of what I was trying to do and they did the work for me. I then installed the carpet the same frustrating, backbreaking way as everyone else .

The pads match my foot position perfectly, but I don't think I really have enough miles on it yet to judge how necessary they were.

You can use industrial velcro to adhere them to the carpet.............HTH Steven
