View Full Version : Changing power booster/Hydroboost, why can't I use different ones?

My power booster from a 96 Cobra went out, so I have to replace it.

It is my understanding that only certain boosters will work due to the pedal box. Why is that? What is specific about the pedal box that makes it so I can only use a certain booster?

Thank you.

Each hydraboost booster is designed by OEMs to fit their vehicles. It sounds like you may have one available to you for little or no cost but it doesn't fit. A truck one may be different than one for a car and to fit that pedal box.

I have hydroboost out of a 97 cobra. It ended up leaking and some point and I decided rebuilt it. Pretty straightforward and the seal kit was like $25.

Which is what I am getting at.. What exactly is it that doesn't fit? Since the firewall on the Roadster can take them, I am guessing that they will bolt into the pedal box as well. Is it the length of the pushrod and the ring connecter that doesn't fit on the pedal?

I replaced the 96 Mustang hydro boost on my roadster. There is a rod between the booster and master cylinder that needs to be reused as they vary in length. By the way it still leaks a little but not into foot box now.
