On page 48 of the current assembly manual it simply says "Bolt the steering arms to the spindles so the tie rod end will mount from the bottom" with the picture below.

Now, it's clear to me that these things have a definite bias either up or down as well as in or out depending on hoe you mount them.

As you can see in my pictures, I unintentionally did it BOTH possible ways! I know, but hopefully someone learns from my mistake.

What is the correct way these should be installed? My current thought is they should be tilting up and out for each side so the tie rod can mount from below and leave the most adjustment left/right.

This is the best angle I can get from the manual, but it still is a bit fuzzy to me.

For the Roadster, they mount with the large diameter of the taper pointing down (as you said) and the bend pointing out, e.g. toward the wheel/tire.

I have read a couple locations where I could have received two of the same arms. Will need to check that in the AM!

Do they still have a L and a R marking on them? Back in the day those marks were correct for a 33 Hotrod and wrong for a roadster. As Edwardb says, your last picture is correct.
