View Full Version : Advice requested - New Engine Going in... Remove Body, or leave body on?
Want to know who has done it already. I already passed along my body buck from the original build to another local Houston FFR owner, but I've now finished building my new motor and ready to swap it out. I'm obviously worried about damaging paint, but which route is the more sketchy?
Remove and store body? Obviously way more time and still have some paint damage worries...
Leave body on, remove hood, windscreen etc... and heavily wrap fenders, cowl and nose with soft microfiber blankets????

Leave the body on and have a long boom on the hoist.

Body on for sure. You may find it easier to go in from the side.

Just open the hood and drop it in. Piece of pie. Easy as cake. ;)

Long boom lift. Hood off. No need to remove the windshield. Jack the rear of the car way up so you don't have to angle the engine as much.
Do a test run with the lift to make sure it clears everything under the car.

I use an overhead hoist, no boom needed.

I use a come-a-long from an eyebolt in the ceiling.
