Hello everyone.
While doing my 1500 mile nuts and bolts, I noticed something that seemed a bit off and I wanted to run it by the group.
I'm getting rotational play between hub and CV axle on my IRS (new from FFR-- not a doner).
I removed my rear wheel to replace a leaky valve stem and I noticed that I can rotate the hub plus or minus about 3/16" of an inch before the CV axle engages. Its the same on both right and left. There is absolutely no looseness in the hub laterally (hope I'm explaining this correctly). I'm wondering if this is part of the noise I'm hearing in my drivetrain under slack conditions (between gears). The fact that it is exactly the same between right and left suggests that it's ok, but I thought I'd throw it out there to the group for comment. I tried to attach a video of it, but can't get it to upload.

Yeah, that's pretty normal.

I'm curious why that is. It can't be the splines...they're pretty tight. Is it the the bearing in the hub that has a little play, or maybe the outboard u-joint in the axle? Maybe both...

Its the play in the diff that you notice when turning the hub back and forth

I get the diff slop, but he's saying he can rotate the hub without the axle moving. So, he's talking about slop between hub and axle.

Could be because the suspension is dropped. Play in the distal axle joint. Raise the suspension to ride height with wheel off and then try it.
