View Full Version : Holley Sniper Throttle Lever Extension and linkage (?)

Started looking at the setup for the throttle lever and linkage for my new Holley Sniper setup.
I have the new Mechanical Throttle linkage fabricated and installed to the Russ Thompson pedal, but started looking at the connection on the throttle body and seeing that there are a couple Throttle Lever Extensions offered as aftermarket and some guys are saying it improves the leverage and throttle control. Also, do I need to add an additional (safety) spring? I know some track events inspect for it.

What are guys here running? Pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Just found this, very useful:

Seems simple enough, I'm going to attempt to fabricate my own.

I went with a dual spring return - plenty of force to close the throttle when I let off the gas. Not so stiff though that I felt I needed to add an extension for leverage during acceleration. However, I don't track - just cruise, so not a lot of pedal action.

The extension is intended to correct a geometry issue with the cable pulling straight back when connected near the pivot point. The force needed to get the linkage to move initially is greater than after it moves past a certain point. That makes the throttle "twitchy". By moving the connection further from the pivot point, the initial force needed is reduced and the transition is smoother. With a solid linkage vs. a cable, you may have additional pivot point adjustments to make on the linkage as well. I don't have any hands-on experience with solid linkages, but there are many here that do. I do have first-hand experience with the Sniper linkage and the extension. Another item you might consider if you find the butterflies aren't closing completely when you let off the throttle is to add a wrap on the spring on the secondary throttle shaft.

Here is my solution to the geometry issue with a cable throttle linkage. The pitman arm on the bellcrank is the same length and at the same angle as the arm on the Sniper throttle. This makes the initial tip in easier and the throttle response to the pedal much more linear.
You already have a mechanical throttle linkage so, just make sure your arm at the firewall is at the same angle and length as the Sniper.

PS I am going to do the spring mod to the secondaries
