Hey Y'all,

I assembled the right side of my IRS suspension today, and wanted to ask the forum here some questions about the kit-supplied hardware before I do the left side...

1) Does the upper arm heim joint 5/8" bolt assembly get a backing washer for the locknut?

2) do the coil-over 1/2" bolts require backing washers? I noticed a whole bag of them in the chassis fasteners box...

3) I have fasteners left over

Are the socket head bolts for the driveshaft adapter? If so, then there are still 2 extra bolts...where are those used? I also have 2 left-hand jam nuts that weren't used. Where do those go?

Appreciate the feedback!

1) I did because I hate to see nuts and bolts with out washers to spread the load
2) I did for that as well, but make sure there is enough thread engagement, I had some iffy ones.
3) The left hand Jam nuts are incorrectly supplied, there should have been some right hand ones for the toe link.
3) the 4 20 mm socket heads are for the drive line-to-adapter plate, 6 of the 25 mm are for the diff adapter plate, a bit ahead in the manual, and have not found a use for the remaining 4 25 mm in my application. They are 12.9 grade socket head screws.

Thanks F500guy,

I also don't like seeing bare hex head bolts or plain nuts without a washer. Flange head are fine as-is...

Yeah, it was surprising about the jam nuts...I'm pretty sure I assembled everything correctly. Still puzzled about the extra socket head bolts...

Oh this is great to see on the 2 extra left hand jam nuts. I had the same extras and stared at the manual for a hot minute wondering what I had missed. Craig, it sounds like we’re at the same point in our builds - look forward to following yours.

Like several guys above, I use washers under nuts and bolt heads. Other than the nut tightening against the aluminum, someone could probably make a case that they are not needed. But I do it anyway. BTW for the one against the aluminum, go to the Ace or TrueValue and look in their Grade 8 section for the 'hardened' washers.

I had the extra left-handed jam nuts as well last weekend.

I was short the two that I actually needed for the lower toe adjusted (see picture from manual) there's supposed to be one on each side. I was lucky to find at Ace!
