I received my MKIV basic kit a few weeks ago and like thousands in the past, made a body buck for the long term storage of the body. However I wonder if there is a right or wrong way to store the individual panels (hood and trunk) and the doors. Every now and then you will see a post where someone is asking about fitting a hood or trunk lid that has twisted/warped out of shape and in some cases, FFR has replaced the panel. I wonder if the distortion could be caused by the way those panels were stored over months or years. Given the stiffness of the doors, most likely not an issue with them but the hood and trunk lid are large enough to get out of shape over time. Of course, the most obvious is to not store stuff on top of the panels.

Is there a recommended way to store the hood and trunk lid to prevent or minimize any possible distortion?

Many thanks

You could store your other panels either on your body with tape or set them aside on a rug somewhere. They should not distort unless you put something heavy on them.

Best regards,
