I’d guess that many of us wonder what our cars might sell for. The attached photos show well, although I could use an engine detail.

Summary:
MK3
450hp 347 Stroker (carburated)
T5 World Class, 5-link
Big Wilwood brakes

Main Accessories: Power steering, heater, footbox blowers, wipers.

19,000 miles on the odometer
7,000 miles on the engine, clutch, pressure plate, etc. NO HARD RACING

Engine:
347 Stroker from Coast High Performance (CHP), 450 hp
Edelbrock Performer Aluminum heads, ported & polished
ISKY Racing Cam
SCAT Crank
SCAT connecting rods
Probe pistions with upgraded tool steel wrist pins
Billet aluminum main girdle
Levy oil pan, baffled with crank scraper

Drivetrain:
T5 World Class, 2.95 1st gear
Steeda Triax Short Throw shifter (AWESOME!)
ZOOM Racing Kevlar clutch
ZOOM racing pressure plate
Bellhousing/Clutch scatter sheild
Fox Body rear axle housing
Steeda axles
3.55 rear with Carbon Fiber Clutch Disk kit
All new rear axle seals

Brakes:
Front: 6-piston Wilwood (these are the big brakes right from Wilwood, not the smaller ones FFR sells)
Rear: 4-piston Wilwood

Suspension:
Front: SAI mod, FFR tubulars, bumpsteer kit
Rear: Levy Racing 5-link
KONI Coilovers

Bodywork:
Done by Miller Customs circa 2006. There are NO fish-eyes, spider-webbing, or cloudiness in the paint. The doors, trunk and hood close properly. Finish is Black with Porsche Carmona Red Metallic Stripes. There are stars ghosted into the stripes – not everyone’s thing but they are very subtle and only noticeable when the sun hits it the right way.

Other Accessories:
Herb’s Door panels with pockets
Sun Visors
Windwings
Chrome rollbar with chrome gasketed bezels
Chrome quickjacks with chrome hardware
Chrome door hinges with chrome hardware
Chrome hood hinge with gas shocks
Chrome steering wheel bezel
Chrome seat belt loop bezels
Trunk hinge with gas shocks
Fatmat sound/heat installation (including trunk)
Carpeted trunk
Expanded footboxes
Hidden storage compartment in trunk
Blacked out wheel wells (rhino-liner)
UNBELIEVEABLY neat wiring in the engine bay

Disadvantages:
Usual stone chips on lower nose. Not visible when looking at the car.
The driver’s side glass pack seems to have blown out and the car is STUPID loud.
There is NO rev limiter – so no donuts allowed!
Slight oil leak, likely rear main seal. (You don’t need to keep adding oil but you need to park on cardboard in the garage.)
The engine and oil temps get “uncomfortably warm” when you are in stop-n-go traffic on a hot day. Likely related to my under-drive pulleys but that’s another story….

867-5309.... ask for (you know who). She'll take care of an appraisal for ya. Don't sell it to soon. I'm hanging up my spray gun and the value of that paint job should sky rocket.....or not !...Da Bat

Depends on the buyer. :D The market for replica’s is fluctuating a bit as I am seeing more on sale which is not a good thing for prices. I would say you could get $50-55k on BAT as long as you have a lot of good pics, videos and participate actively in the auction plus addressing some of the items you mention.

Eddie: Time for a set of Gas-N side pipes. They look and sound great and will add to the cars value. They will take care of the noise problem making your car more enjoyable to drive.
My seat of the pants feel for the value of your car is more on the order of $45K. Although prices have risen post pandemic, the MK4 is preferred if one is available.
If you really don't want to sell, why the appraisal, for insurance stated value reasons? Often just a good set of pictures and description is enough to support the desired valuation.

Mid 40s out of state; add some for the SB100 if it stays in California.

I'm going with KDubU on this one. It's a great looking car with a lot of nice upgrades and a few minor problems. If I was a buyer I'd be most concerned about the overheating. Swapping out the underdrive pulleys and confirming that fixes it would be money well spent even if you plan to keep it.

I think having your body work and paint done by one of the reputable guys makes a huge difference. Someone who is not familiar with these guys may not know how important that is, but when I go on to BaT and see some of the lousy body work (wheel well area, top of door where it meets body, and just inconsistent door/hood/trunk gaps) and they go for high 40’s/low 50’s, I’d say yours, with the right buyer, should be $55,000ish. I will say I have seen the sale prices on BaT going down lately. Not that I know anything.

I'd think $50+k. You have a lot of extra's added, Levy 5 link, stroker engine, brakes, etc. Paint alone isn't cheap, and yours is a custom job.
What would it cost someone to build one the same today? Have to be in the mid 40's just for parts, and a kit with the added FFR options, plus paint.

Estimates above are what I was expecting/hoping for.

Looks like that going to Da Bat was the right choice. I see a lot of guys do a very fine job with their garage paint jobs but I do wonder what a 15-year-old garage paint job looks like. My car looks the same except for general battle-scars.

Lately I've been doing little things such as replacing any black oxide hardware such as for the gas tank straps, removing the wheels and polishing everything up including the lug nuts themselves, removing the visors and polishing them, etc.

If in the event that I would sell I'd buy some MK4 seats as they are a lot more comfortable. I'd buy them for myself, but the prices have skyrocketed in recent times. I think they used to be about $500 for the vinyl and $800 for the leather. It's almost double now.

I do find it funny that you said no hard racing and included a picture of you at an autocross. :)

Great looking car. I think BAT might not be the way to go RN. Prices have dropped on average and some folks have had much better luck selling locally. If it were my car I would ask 55k and take 50K

Sure, anywhere from 30-55K, maybe more, maybe less, it will depend on the venue in which you eventually sell (I recommend BAT for your car, after you get the undercarriage dry ice cleaned, and the car detailed top to bottom), and finding someone that wants your car, built your way.

As for the actual appraisal, I highly recommend spending a few dollars and having it properly appraised. You'll find most appraisers will offer insurance appraisals and not market appraisals....Why, simple, the market is ever changing, and any market type appraisal will be for a small 15-30 day time frame only.

I agree with MrM. Given the volatility of the specialty car market and the appraisal period of 15-30 days, you will have to accept a ballpark range, subject to change.
The buyers of iconic vehicle replicas may perceive them in historic terms, which makes "unique" features appeal to a smaller market.
The general public buyer is likely not competing with Forum members for performance specs, and may be intimidated, especially after a demonstration.

Just curious:

Would there actually be someone that could professionally appraise a Factory Five Racing kit car, for example, know the advantages of a 5-link over a 4-link or even a 3-link?

I'm no longer a licensed appraiser of any kind, but if you want to bring it over, I can do a market appraisal good for 30 days on it.

That would be a long commute for Eddie as he lives in SoCal.

This is a BaT (Ferrari replica) comment on the specialty car market today:

Anyone who has read the poor results from the five auction houses at Monterey will attest to a “softening” of the classic car market. 16% below last year’s sales and a lower sell through rate ( cars sold as % of cars offered). Some of the marque cars for each auction house did not sell. I don’t speculate what is an appropriate price for a vehicle on BaT (before the auction ends) as there are always surprises.

They can run all over the map on any given day. Three recent ones from the past month or so show the often wild variations:

A donor type Mk4 with a '92 Mustang drivetrain, rear drum brakes and a 4 link rear using cut down Mustang coil springs and nice black paint went for $43.5

An all new parts Mk3 with a 302 crate running Mass-Flo EFI, TKO 600, 3 link and big brakes with California SB100 also with nice paint sold for $45.5

No way those two cars should have sold for virtually the same money...but they did. One high, one low.

A third one, a Mk3 with Ford Racing 347, TKO 600 and 3 link sold for $37.5, possibly held back somewhat by a paint combination that likely wouldn't appeal to many potential purchasers.

During the boom over Covid there was a FFR MK4 that had a very cool paint scheme but the interior was so so and the side pipes were jenky as hell. One was nutted all the way to the top of the opening and the other dropped near the ground. Sold for $78,000

Market definitely has softened.

Yes it has but is stronger than it was 3-4 years ago. A car that I did and thought would sell in the mid to upper 70s went for $92K two years ago! There are still outliers on both ends though...like a basic donor build selling for $43,500!

Hey Eddie, here is a chance to get some nice new Gas-N side pipes at a bit of a discount.
