Installed the windshield for the first time today. Took it easy to avoid stressing the glass. one of the 8 screws (DS top) didn't line up. still thinking through that.

To get the windshield bars to fit, I needed to lengthen and widen the precut holes. Expected. What i did NOT expect was that the bars would seem crooked or twisted. They seem to cant inwards front to back. You can see in the pictures that the front of the bars are towards the left of the slot and the rear is to the right of the slot. I still need to remove and clearance the slots to avoid hard contact with the bars, but I'm more concerned with how the shimming will work. Since the shims aren't wedges, will that be an issue? any advice?

On my windshield the posts were not parallel with each other, and were both twisted like yours. They're pretty soft brass material and I was able to put them in a vice with padded jaws and use a large crescent wrench to carefully straighten them out. Note that if you try this you'll have them on and off the windshield frame several times, as you want to make the adjustments in small increments. That means that you'll likely strip out the little brass strips in the windshield that the side posts screw into, so just save yourself the heartache and replace those with the stainless steel pieces from Whitby from the get-go.

I had the same problem as JohnK, and fixed it the same way. The brass inserts stripped on the final attempt to fit the windshield, so I had to delay final installation a couple of weeks waiting for the steel ones to arrive.

Note that as you untwist the arms you can fix their fit at the top of the windshield frame. It'll take you half a dozen or more tries, but with patience you can make the tops perfect.
