Are you interested where the quality of your wiring stands? This handy guide gives examples of the common stuff and stacks them up from worst junk to best. It doesn't get into workmanship, but it's a fair bet that workmanship will directly follow hardware quality.

For reference. Your example of "done right" puts a wire tied back on itself causing resistance.

True in theory, but an irrelevant amount in automotive wiring. Less than a typical multimer is capable of discerning. Typically one can secure to a harness, but to itself in this case.
EDIT: Let's also not forget that the extra 3" of wire length with the tie back method will increase resistance. Probably more than a single tie back. :rolleyes:
In my 44 years of automotive, forklift, and semi truck repair, I have seen everything shown on this chart, and sadly, more of the upper half. The blue Scotch-lock connectors are almost gone today, but they were sure everywhere back in the 1980's. We still come across the twist-on wire nuts all the time.
