View Full Version : Filler neck loose at grommet

There have been many on here that advised to use the Ford filler neck grommet in place of the one supplied with the kit. I did that and the filler neck fits in the tank very loosely. Is this normal? Have others experienced this and do I need to do anything about it? I am worried about leaking fuel around that grommet. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Assuming you got the right one then maybe it will tighten up with the filler installed. I am pretty sure I could rotate the grommet, but it was fairly tight.

I have the exact same concern. I also used the Ford gasket, and while the gasket is firmly sealed to the tank, the filler tube rotates around very freely. It has been 100+ here for several weeks, so perhaps the heat is causing this, but I would have thought heat would have made the gasket expand thus providing a tighter seal. I have to have the filler tube taped to the side of the frame else it will swing down (still in go kart without the body on yet).

I have the Breeze filler neck and it would slowly rotate in the tank seal if not anchored at the top. The way the seal is designed it will feel like the filler neck is loose when installed. The seal allows about 1/2 inch of total deflection or 1/4 inch in every direction from centre This allows for some movement.

Norm, so it sounds like this movement is 'normal', despite being unexpected.
Thanks

Yes, it will slowly rotate if allowed. They've been known to rotate to the ground, drag the concrete and scoop up gravel on the first go kart maiden voyage. At least that's what happens at my house. :)

Mine did the same thing, rotating forward and rubbing on the rear wheel during go kart. I am now done with the build prior to body work, and there is no issue. I fill the tank the whole way and no leaks from that gasket.
