Folks,

I am ready to start on the next phase of the build now that all the suspension and stuff is sorted out. I don't really have a roadmap from here on what to do next so my plan is just to keep following the steps in the book. My next task is to install the Firewall, and the instructions say if you are doing a heater/air-conditioner its much easier to cut the firewall before you install. Problem is, I have no idea where to start. I want my car to have both ideally, but no clue where to start. What parts do I need? What is the template for the cut out?

I don't have any of the kit because I didn't think I was going to do either (and have now changed my mind). So, pointers to the kit? Is there the equivalent of the breeze aircon/heater setup? (I looked and didn't see one there).

Advice?

Thanks!
Dan

Like I said on the other thread. Richard Oben at North Race Cars unit works pretty well. I changed a few things about the way some of it was mounted but most everything you need is in the kit. It does add a lot of work and you will have to be creative. Not exactly cut and dry.

Hey Dan,

As stated, the (NRC- North Race Cars) is great option as is Vintage Air and there is another vendor as well that I know of, but not a supported vendor here, so ping me if you want that info. I personally try to only support vendors on this site, or those that F5 does buisness with. With that said, looks like you have the FFMetal Firewall Forward planned to gain the additional space. And you'll definitely have to shorten the glove box and your dash guage layout needs to be taken into consideration too! Since you are going with a small block, you'll have more real estate to work with which helps. Anyway, it's doable, just takes careful planning and cardboard templates were the key for me! Definitely create your build with no regrets, that's my motto! Good luck and stay cool my friend!

Another endorsement of Richard’s (NRC) system. Paired with a top and side curtains, it works well. The A/C really takes the edge off the heat (just remember to seal the cockpit from the engine bay, even a small opening can feel like a blow touch). The heat works even better. We went to an early mourning cruise here in the mountains early last spring, it was about 35 when we left. Halfway there, my wife asked me to turn the heat down.

I am using the Type65 Coupe A/C heater setup which is a mix of Sirocco and Vintage Air components
In hindsight and knowing all that had to be modified, etc. I probably would have shopped around at different evaporator sizes/shapes, there are some new ones that are pretty tiny and can put out some decent BTUs

hoping it all works well, waiting to get my car back from the bodyshop to finish things up

here are posts to my build/mods for the A/C
