Just wanted to share, on September 17th myself and two others will be doing the Silver State Classic Challenge in Nevada.
Three type 65's will be running in the grand touring group with an average target speed of 120MPH and a max speed of 140 for a distance of 90 miles.
We are in process of prepping the cars for the event and one of us is still trying to finish his up. I will be driving mine 650 miles to ELY Nevada, doing the even which should end up being apx 250 miles and then driving it 650 miles home. We will try and post updates and photos and hopefully Dave and Patrick add to this thread.

One week to go and we will be on our way to Ely. I am going over the car one last time this weekend and making sure everything looks perfect.
I am getting some, really minor, leaking at the pinion seal. Going to keep an eye on it and bring some extra oil just in case.

The race is done. We had a great time and between the three of us won 4 awards. 1 for the fastest 1/2 mile shootout of 147mph and 3 for the actual race of which included the top award for the closest hand timing. I think we might have sold a couple of coupes as people were wanting to sit in them and see how they fit before ordering. Patrick hit 151 MPH in the mile shootout which was the fastest of the three.
My coupe did a 139 MPH for many miles to see how it performed so I can move up to the 165 group next year. Stats at 139 MPH- 185 degree coolant, 208 Oil temp and 240 degree diff temp, 6th gear and pulling fine.

Congrats on a successful weekend. I'm jealous! Which one of the cars went the fastest and what was the differences in powerplants. Just wondering what HP and trans you are using. I'm thinking about building a Type 65 with a Vortech Supercharger. I've followed the Silver State Classic for a few years, but it didn't seem right for a roadster, but almost designed for the Coupe. I've watched you video as well. Nicely done!

Hello Tbull,
Patricks car hit 153 mph in the 1 mile shoootout. Fastest Type 65 on a public road. He has a gen 3 coyote with T56 but the engine was not making max power as he was still tunning it.
My car his 147mph in the 1/2 mile and I have the same drivetrain.
Daves hit 138 in the 1 mile shootout and he's running a crate 302 with a TKO600.
In May we are stepping up to the next class and will be limited to 165mph. So my goal is 164 mph top speed and an average of 140. Patrick is planning on a 130 average and Dave 135.

Thanks for the info. Is Patrick's care the Type 65 R? Sounds like you guys had a blast and the video shows the car as very stable at speed. I just got my Roadster together last year, but I really enjoyed the build side of it as well. Drawing up plans now. Hoping I'll get to pull the trigger and try this out.

Patricks is the standard model. Mine is a hybrid as I welded in a lot of the R model bars except for side and windshield intrusion.
Would love to have you attend the Silver state classic. Our goal is five coupes for next year and have our own team.

You get certificates for your average and/or your max trap speed, standing 1/2 or 1 mile speeds - just got mine today.
This was my third time at the event. I'll go up 10 mph at a time.

That extended open road video is awesome!
I don't know what the total distance was (80-90 miles?). However, it shows what these cars are capable of with a basic 302 crate motor for extended speeds. 130+ mph at 5250 rpm - Nicely done!

The distance for this event was 90 miles one way.
The event in May is 60 miles, out and back.
I have a 3.15 IRS differential sitting here waiting to go in place of the current 3.55.

Dave,
Your car is my hero! Where did you source the 3.15, May I ask? I’ll get one too! 👍

I got it from eBay.
My 3.55 was new from FFR when I bought the car. I was hesitant to buy a used 3.15 but what I have now is a 'used' 3.55 anyway. The key was to find one that did not have a high shipping cost. I took the back cover off, had a look, re-sealed it and changed the output shaft seals.

Mileage may vary, but I've had my Type 65 up to 160+ on a straight open road (in Mexico of course) and it felt very confident and sturdy on its feet with room to spare. I was pretty surprised as the only other car I've driven near that fast was my Viper GTS, and it felt extremely sketchy as it started to float across the road when I hit 150. Seems like Pete Brock knew what he was doing.
Mine is pretty well stock (no aero of any sort), so you guys should hopefully have no problems running with the 165 group next year. Can't wait to see it happen.

Alphamacaroon,
I think you have the fastest Coupe to be driven on a public road. Congratulations. I know one did 200+ at Bonneville but I am talking public roads in a controlled situation of course.
Next year I am hoping for 164 to break your record:)

Hah— you can have it now! I wouldn't call mine "official" by any means. My speedo was completely maxed out and I had to rely on my friend who was driving his M2 Competition in front of me to tell me how fast we were going. So I think you guys deserve the honor with an official speed. Also, it was a lot of fun and at no time did it feel unsafe (other than driving insane speeds in a car you put together with your own hands), but I'll probably never do it again— no need to tempt fate. So don't worry about me taking the record from you in the future :D
But the main point of the post was to say that the Coupe seems to be very happy at those speeds and I felt like it had a lot of room left in it (safety disclaimer: mileage may vary and don't take my word for it). One point to note— if you have windshield wipers, ditch them for your run (which from your pictures, it looks like you guys probably already know that).

I agree with you and think these cars are capable of some serious high speeds. I think 165 will be my limit as self preservation
comes into play and a wreck at 165 is not going to end well. The record is all in fun as we are one big Type 65 Family:)
