What’s the trick to keeping them from tarnishing? Does running too rich contribute?

Stainless always picks up that "goldish" tint from heat. Harris Compound 302 is the secret to bringing them back to like new:

Yep, Compound 302 is the secret. Just be very careful where and how you use and store it as it is extremely caustic!

I also use the compound 302 on my GasN brushed nickel side pipes and works amazing! I also found that using bug and tar remover afterwards gives them a bit of protection.

Don't let the Compound 302 sit on the metal for more than a handful of seconds; it will etch the polish!

I've been using Mother Aluminum Mag Wheel Polish; however, it does require a good bit of elbow grease to clean up the pipes.

Question to the hive mind. I have the 302 polish and have not yet used it as I am not quite sure the protocol. It says on the instructions that use an alkaline at the end to neutralize it. What is your process of application and removal. Thanks!!!!!

Wet the area you will be working on with water, then apply the compound with a cloth rag (just wipe it on, no need to "polish" the area). Rinse the area completely with water. Dry the pipes and if you want, use a little metal polish to bring the shine back to 100% like-new.

This was literally five minutes work, and no, I didn't do it with the car on the lift!
