View Full Version : Staggered delivery?

Since there are quite a few folks that plan on waiting for the Targa and Coupe models, I was wondering if FFR has considered breaking down the ordering and delivery process a bit? Say letting us order the chassis, and put a deposit on the body we want for later delivery? I know that this would increase shipping costs, but it lets the buyer start building the chassis right away instead of having to wait for the body they want to be finished. Also, for folks with a smaller garage, you wouldn't need to store the body parts while building the chassis. For most of us, it will probably be a 6 month to a year to build the chassis anyway. Just a thought.

It sounds like a good idea. The fear that came to my mind is that what if changes to the chassis ended up being required for those other body shapes? Until the development is fully done, I think I'd probably be a just a bit too leery myself...

I bet if they can accomodate that, they will consider it. But I think they won't be certain the Coupe or other body styles will bolt right into the Roadster chassis at the time that they are building just the Roadster body. They just won't know for certain if tweaks would be needed if the Coupe or other isn't fully settled by then (which I'm guessing it won't be).

I would expect their goal is to make the chassis as accomodating to all body designs as possible, to allow the least differences in manufacturing of the chassis. I would further imagine that once they have the Coupe and other designs completed, they would make alterations to the chassis as needed to allow a single chassis to accomodate as many of the body styles as possible.

But to get that sort of modular chassis right, you have to have a good idea of what all you are trying to accomodate, and I just don't think they will be there on day 1 of Roadster release. I imagine by the time they are able to do this, it will be because the Coupe and other designs are released, obviating much of the need you express.

Yeah, what I said!

Me = 30 words, Opp = 203 words.

JUST TEASING YOU Opp! Yours was very eloquently stated. :)

IIRC, it was mentioned that a goal was to have swappable bodies and panels. I'm just bringing this up so that FFR can see the interest in adding options to their ordering process.

LOL. It took me so long to write mine that yours ended up beating me to the punch (we probably started at the same time). I was thinking of editing mine to 'what he said first, only longer', but you beat me to that, too. I've never been accused of being too brief.

Thanks for counting my words BTW.

Haha! Now THAT's funny!

I didn't actually count your words. I copied your post into MS Word and let it do the counting for me. I'm lazy like that! :)

Glad to know you have an active sense of humor, BTW. :D
