View Full Version : Driveshaft clearance?

How much do I need to be safe? I have a TKX and I’ve used a combination of 4 washers on each trans mount post plus an extra adapter plate that came with my kit to raise the driveshaft such that it has between 0.7-0.75” clearance above the frame when turned at its closest orientation. Is that enough or should I add more washers and see if I can get to a full inch? It’s a balance game between not taking up too many threads on the mount so that the nylock nut still catches vs getting extra clearance…

Also if someone could just take a quick look at this setup and make sure it looks right I’d appreciate it!

Thanks as always!

I had to raise the tail of my tkx about 0.75in to mate with the center section of the IRS. but, it is really the pinion angle that will determine the appropriate spacing. once you measure the pinion angle you can determine if more or less is needed. also, I got longer bolts to ensure enough thread engagement.

I don't recall using that adapter, but did get longer bolts (make sure the grade is at least what the kit came with).

Used this: https://spicerparts.com/calculators/driveline-operating-angle-calculator

And this: https://www.tremec.com/menu/tremec-toolbox-app/

To verify my angles were good. It rotated w/o contact so I didn't do anything else. The parts fore and aft should not really have much play in any particular direction, me thinks
