I’ve seen photos and videos of Gen 1, 2, and 3 Viper engines installed in cobras so I know it is possible, but I haven’t been able to tell if those Cobras were from Factory Five. Quick searches online seem to indicate that the V10 isn’t much different in size from the Coyote engine but none of those numbers are from factory sources so taken with a grain of salt.

I realize putting a Viper motor in will require a custom PCM, custom engine (and possibly transmission) mounts, custom drive shaft and a custom exhaust.

What I’m not sure about is if any chassis adjustments would be required to fit what I presume is a slightly longer engine (compared to coyote). I’m less worried about changes to the firewall or foot boxes as that is just sheet metal and not structural. Anything else I’m not thinking about?

I think the Viper Engine would fit well in a MK-4 because I moved my engine significantly forward (6") in order to make my combination work.

Shown below is my car shortly after we installed the driveline:

This video is when I completed my car roughly three (3) years ago:

Personally I like the idea for either a Viper powered MK-4 or Daytona.

If you are on the Factory Five Builder Facebook group look up Jeff Evans. He did this in a F5 already. Here are two pictures of his car. He is pretty active there if you reach out.

A friend put a V10 and a T56 in his Mk4 Challenge Car. A really short driveshaft. Real tractable, seemed to have plenty of low end grunt to get it moving.

Back in the late 1990s/early 200s Classic Roadsters Pro-builder Ed Combs of London, Ohio built some with Viper power which he called "Double Venom Cobras" (get it...Cobra+Viper=Double Venom). At that time Chrysler did not offer control packs for the Viper powerplant and in fact according to Ed was pretty unwilling to even share information regarding the controls or ECU programming, leaving him to figure it all out without their support. Long story short it was Ed who organized and put on the first 4 "Double Venom Spring Fling" events held in London Ohio during the month of June which 22 years later we now know as the London Cobra Show! That's Ed's personal car, DV1, in the photo.

FWIW, I have a 5.7 Hemi in my 33 Speedstar. I got the engine wiring harness and PCM from HotwireAuto.com. I was turned onto these folks by a member of my Mopar club that put a Viper V10 in his 65 Dodge pickup. He used a wiring harness and PCM from Hotwire Auto.

Chris Squire the owner of Hotwire Auto is extremely knowledgeable and custom programed a factory PCM for my application.

I put a BMW V12 in my MK3 (and then twin-turbocharged it). The only chassis work I had to do was move one 4" frame crossmember forward six or eight inches, plus cutting out the old engine mounts and welding new ones in the right places. You've already figured out the key to any oddball / unsupported engine swap -- "making it fit" is the easier part, and then "making it work" is the harder part!

Cheers, John

Thank you all for the great information and confirmation that while it may be a difficult plan, it is not an impossible one. Especially appreciate all of the FFR specific feedback.

Thanks Jeff, I had seen some of the double venom info during my search but I wasn’t 100% confident that it was in a FFR. That is incredible that not only did Ed figure out how to get it in there but he figured out the control electronics himself. Very impressive!

Thanks for the reference, I have been in contact with Dan at VSP (Viper Specialty Performance) but it’s great to know that there are other proven successful options available out there to investigate.

They were built on the stretched wheelbase Classic Roadsters platform.

This has got to be the wildest one I've heard! A V12! Got any pictures? I went to the link in your signature to a thread on the old forum but a lot of the pictures expired :(
