Wheel Well Liners and Lip

I'm starting to dig into the body a bit more and was wondering if anybody who has installed Alex's wheel well liners on a MKIV have any advice on how I should go about messing with the edges of the wheel well openings themsevles (if at all). I thought the openings for the MKIV look pretty good but I know people have done some modifications to clean those areas up in past versions. I also wasn't sure if it was good to leave the lip to give the liners something to be tucked behind to keep them in place.

Any pictures or advice much appreciated!
