I have a slow but persistent leak coming from the thermostat housing on my BPE 347. I got the Dorman replacement from Autozone and it came with a gasket. Should I: 1. use the gasket dry; 2. toss the gasket and use RTV to make the seal or 3. use the gasket and RTV together? What is the best practice for this? Thanks!

Gasgacinch and a the gasket. It it sticky and allows positioning without slipping. Really been the only reliable thing I use for sealing.....

What about upgrading to an O-Ring style water-neck instead?

A little functional eye-candy is always nice to have.

Is the recess in the housing deep enough to make the stat flush? Mine was not, so I just used 2 gaskets with very thin coats of RTV. Worked out great!
