Can somebody recommend the best GPS gauge wiring thread using the harness provided in the complete kit?

I started following the instructions but they are not clear at all.

The manual says:

“Twist the ground wires from the power distribution cable, gauge dial light cable and the clock together and butt connect or solder this to the black ground wire.”

But it is not clear what ground wire they are referring to (the harness has several).

The manual says:

“Cut the female connector off the end of the white dash lights wire.“

But there are multiple white wires labeled dash lights.

Please help!!

I used the Vintage Speedhut gauges in my build. I had the speedo converted to GPS by them as an upgrade. The basic wiring for the GPS speedo is very simple, power, GND, lighting, and the GPS antenna cable. GND is ground. You can use one of the grounds in the harness or route to a grounding point on the chassis somewhere that you create. Always, check continuity to chassis from your ground wire to insure what you have connected to is indeed ground. Most folks make a instrument cluster harness that daisy chains the power, ground and lighting for all the gauges so that you have one connection for each to the harness and lighting voltage regulator if your gauges use one. When wiring, a good Digital Multimeter is your friend for continuity and voltage testing. I think you are overthinking following the instructions to the letter. IMO, better to know what each harness wire is used for what. Hopefully each wire in your harness is marked with its function.
Good luck, take a step back and then tackle the problem on another day and you will be fine.
There are many examples of instrument wiring here to view as examples with EdwardB's build threads being exceptional as well as others.

Thanks for responding Alan.

I am struggling with which white "dash lights" wire I am supposed to use. There are 5 white wires labeled "dash lights". There are two sets of two wires connected together and then one solo wire.

I honestly don't understand why there isn't a more straight forward tutorial somewhere!

It doesn't matter which one(s) to use. They are all the same thing. The harness is a universal setup for different models and different gauge packages and every build will likely have some differences. What you don't use can either be removed or capped.

Ed, that is super helpful and make a lot of sense. Thank you!
