Hey everyone - My roadster build is approaching pre-body-work completion and I am looking into getting the car road-legal. I wanted to see if anything has changed recently in the processes and limitations associated with getting a title and tags. I am in an emissions county (Cobb county, Georgia), which means that if I have a the car titled as a 2023 specially constructed vehicle, which is the same legal process as obtaining a salvage title, I have to pass emissions testing once the car is 2 years old, and from then on every year. I can't pass emissions with my 427 and headers/side pipes and no OBD2 port. I recently saw a post for a car for sale here on the forums where the seller claims to have obtained a 1965 title for a newly built roadster. This is why I am asking if/how this is possible. He isn't responding to DMs. The alternative process is not to title the car, but just register it, which is possible with a 1965 model year on the registration. All it takes is to get a VIN assigned, get that VIN inspected by police, get insurance and go to the DMV with the FFR certificate of origin (or bill of sale if it was bought instead of built). However I am concerned that if I ever want to sell, not having a title will decrease value. I suppose I could also get it titled as a 2023 and then find someone willing to get creative with the yearly emissions testing for me (i.e. a speed shop that does cat deletes and other performance mods on modern cars).
