View Full Version : Wilwood MC leaks?

I've read a lot of threads about Wilwood MC leaks. Is this really a systemic problem, or is it an example of "you only hear the bad, and it's a tiny fraction of the total." I'm tempted to get the Tilton units, and I think it's established that they're a higher quality piece, but on the flip side I want to believe FFR wouldn't continue supplying them if it was indeed a big problem.

I guess this wouldn't even cross my mind if the MC location was more accessible.

Personally, I'd use the Wilwoods. In five builds, I did have one with a defective O-ring and it dripped slightly. A $25 rebuild kit and it's been fine for four seasons now. Hundreds (thousands?) of kits have been built with them and Wilwood IMO makes good parts. (Note I didn't say cheap.). You have plenty of time before covering everything up to see if the ones in your kit are OK (they probably will be) and easy to fix or change if necessary. My main recommendation would be to finalize and bleed your brake system early before the DS footbox is enclosed so that if service is necessary the access is easy. Tilton makes very high quality parts in my experience, and maybe they are higher quality? I don't know without personal experience with the MC's. But you can use that argument with just about every part in the kit. There will always be higher quality parts that cost more. But whether required is questionable.

And that's just FFR kits... guessing countless other applications. And my father always reminded me of the difference between cheap and inexpensive. :)

Ain't that the truth!

Thanks Paul.

I ended up with three different size MC's.

Well yeah, that's the next question. It seems 3/4 is the go-to for the LS7 clutch. I'm not entirely sure about brakes, but Tilton spec'd 3/4 front and rear based on my setup.
