I'm brand new to this forum and am about the pull the trigger on ordering a MK4 kit. But, before I do, I have LOTS of questions. Rather than post all in one, I'll probably post each question/subject separately. Some of my questions have already been answered via the thread search, so if you know my question has been answered before, directing me to the link of a previous thread is great!

First a general introduction. I'm a retired business owner that spent the 1st 4 years of retirement building an airplane (Van's RV-10, pics attached).

I enjoy flying (a lot) but there are still days I wish I had another "project" to work on. Building another plane is too much of a commitment, but a FF MK4 seems like a good fun project that won't take multiple years of my life to complete.

My driving habits will be weekend cruising only. No plans to race, no plans to show. I like speed, but don't want to temp fate by building too much of a beast. At this point, here's the options I'm gravitrating to:
347 EFI engine
IRS
Complete build kit
Plan on all new parts (no rebuilt donor parts)

Here's a pic of the "look" I'll be going for (Love the color scheme)

So, any general comments, lessons learned, advice, etc... that comes to mind based on this very general description, please comment. As I said, I'll post more detailed questions one by one that I have as I begin to select order options.

Thanks in advance for advice and insights!!!

Welcome and that's a very nice looking airplane!

From you first brief description it sounds like you are off to a very good start. I did the all new parts route and glad for it.

Good plan. If you constructed a plane you'll have no problem building a roadster!

Welcome :)

Sounds like a good plan to me as that is what I plan to do. Working with all new parts is expensive but worth the price when you don't have to degrease everything and spend all your time cleaning just to get started. A 347 EFI will be overkill but worth it if you are a good driver with good reflexes. These cars were monsters back in the day with a donor 225HP 302 which is what I believe the Challenge race cars had to use.
