Hi all.
After waiting several months to get my plates and papers to register my coupe in Wisconsin I am finally road worthy. The tax check was cashed in two days and 2 months later I am all set. First came the vin and a couple of weeks later came the title. Following this the plates arrived. I set up insurance with State Farm for a value of 55k for only $160 every 6 months…quite a good deal through them.
I finally went out on the road. It is an experience. Very visceral and raw. I Need to bed in the clutch and the brakes. Doesn’t stop as great as I would like. Need to be very careful. I also discovered my speedometer does not work and I have a small pinhole in the top of my aluminum overflow tank. I also think I want to make the driver seat more adjustable…There is always something to do…part of the fun.
My question to the more experienced builders is what would you surmise I missed with the speedo?
It is a 2015 coyote with tkx trans and Ron Francis harness.
My second question is when will the lower radiator hose get hot? I can’t believe how cool this thing stays. Check out the video.
Any help is appreciated.

How much coolant/water have you put in? Should be nearly 4 gal. Fill the tank most of the way, put the cap on, and run it until you get up to about 200. Tstat should open before that, but fan should also kick on about then.

HOK galaxy grey. The light color stripe is orion silver House of Kolor. I have not sanded or polished yet. I might do some Matt black on the tail and pinstripes to cover some of my base coat errors. Then I will polish it up.
I have about 3 3/4 gallons in to the cooling system currently.
Thanks for the comments and ideas!

The Coyote is a relatively cool running engine. 180 - 190F on the gauge while driving isn't unusual if you're moving and the air temp isn't overly hot. That OE system is self-burping, so shouldn't have trouble with air in the system. But it should have a cap on the reservoir. Not sure how that would affect the operation of the cooling system. But it is overall a pressurized system and needs the cap. The stock Coyote thermostat is a Motorcraft BR3Z8575D. 190 Degree. So at the temps you're showing, likely the thermostat isn't opening which would explain the cool lower hose.
Need more info on the speedo. What gauge brand? Can't tell from your video. GPS or transmission speed sensor?

I think I recall taking off the transmission speed sensor line earlier when adjusting the parking brake and trans alignment. I need to get under there tonight or tomorrow. I bet it is zip tied out of the way and not hooked up…I will look into that . I can see myself doing that.
The gauges are autometer.
Thanks for responding. This car is so cool on the road!

Some gauges you need to measure out a mile and then start and stop the gauge with a manual button. After that it works. Have a look in the instructions that came with the speedo.

I have Speed Hut gauges (not GPS) and calibrated it via MPH app on phone. The Speed Hut gauge had a few setting parameters, I used the 20 mph one and drove my car to 20 mph on a flat road and set the gauge. It is exact up to at least 80 mph.

I will dig up the speedometer instructions and investigate. I am hoping it is just unplugged. We shall see.

Thanks for the suggestion about calibration for the Speedometer. That was something I did not do. The unhooked line on my tkx was a neutral start switch. So everything was hooked up, but I did not know about this calibration procedure.
Unfortunately calibration is not working. Speedometer not functioning yet….when I turn it on to calibrate it goes to 60 then full when turning on the ignition. It then holds pegged full until the trip button is depressed. It responds exactly as it should. The gauge then goes to 60 for the two mile run. During the two mile run it doesn’t change any numbers in the mileage area…so no data coming in. Bummer!
I either have some messed up wiring or a sensor that is not working on the tkx…now to figure that out. I can always use my garmin in the mean while.
Thanks all for your guidance along this journey. Now to put in more driving time….see what else I can find and enjoy.
Here is test drive 3.
