I am changing my serpentine belt. It is a 427/351w. I had to remove the water pump pulley because there was no clearance between the crank pulley and water pump pulley. When I removed the water pump pulley there was a spacer of about 3/16" and a couple washers spacing the pulley out. This being a 351 Windsor should it need spacers to align the pulleys? The pulley numbers are 4H M and E9SE-8509-DA. I am trying to load a picture of the water pump and spacer. 186567

Is it a true spacer or is it changing the bolt pattern a wee bit? CW and CCW water pumps have different bolt patterns on purpose. One has grooves and the other one is smooth.

It is a spacer. It just slides on.

Is the pulley smooth or does it have grooves and can you post a pic of the belt routing?

Thx,

Henry

It is smooth. I will try to get a picture of the belt routing tomorrow.

186602186603186604 The belt comes off of the left side of the crankshaft pulley and the backside of the belt goes around the right side of the water pump pulley. It then goes to the left to the alternator, it comes bac to the right under the tensioner up to the idler pulley and back down to the crank pulley. The crank pulley is 6" in Diameter. the water pump shaft is 5 3/4" from mounting face to the flat where the pulley bolts to. The spacer and washers are 10mm or just under 7/16" The depth of the water pump pulley is 2 7/16". I would like to get a pulley that is shallower so I can mount without spacers and washers.
