View Full Version : Clutch cable and oil filter interference & oil filter relocation location

Hey Guys,
My clutch cable interferes with the oil filter that is mounted on the 302 engine. The interference requires the cable to do a kind of Z bend that I believe is making the clutch pedal harder to push in than necessary. I wasn't planning on installing the oil filter relocation kit, but realized that maybe this is the reason the kit is included. Is there another way to get around this besides the relocation kit? Maybe a 90 degree filter adaptor would do the trick? Or possibly another cable that would work better for the application? If I do have to install the relocation kit, what are some other options for mounting location? I put my brake line across the back side of the X member, so the location FFR suggest will not work.
Thanks,
Frank

Get the 90 adapter. I have no issues with my set up.
The relocater kit was for donor builds using j pipes and from what I hear are no longer included routinely in the kits. Also prone to leaking.

Do you run a cable actuated clutch also?

Yes. Cable. Cars at painters right now but I can look to see if I have any archived pics
Pic attached. I’m also using shorties and j pipes and have plenty of clearance186410

Hmm, Thanks for the pic. Ours are a little different. I have the long tube headers. They are going right thru the area you have your cable running. I couldn't find any pics of my cable, so I'll take one later tonight. I suspect the oil filter 90 degree adaptor would still do the trick.

fyi, OEM ford cables are infinitely better than the kit provided cables. when I purchased a few yrs ago, they were like ~$50 for 2 cables from Forte. cheap insurance in my trunk

Just to follow up. Here's a pic of the adaptor installed on the engine. You can see the path of the cable and how it would have interfered with the old filter. I had to go with a smaller filter to get this to work. I used the MotorCraft FL500S instead of the large Baldwin B2 that I previously.
