View Full Version : Hazard and turn signal issue

Everything was working at one point but I didn’t like the way that the dash indicator lights displayed the information so I tried to rewire it all. That then began to blow the fuse after about 10 minutes so I am now working on putting it back to how it was supposed to be. My turn signals are fine, but nothing related to my hazard flasher works. Why might this be? In addition, if I can’t get it to work, can I use the turn signal flasher for the hazards too?
Thank you!

I'm a newb...but in my struggles, I always have to follow every single connection etc - most importantly the areas where you re-did things.
1) since you blew a bunch, check fuses
2) do you have voltage at the switch and rest of the circuit?
3) check the function of the flasher can, swap with the turn signal can
4) of course, ground check
5) check the wiring on the back of the fuse array, I had a loose wire there that was not obvious from a quick glance, only by manually ensuring they were secure
6) don't think using the turn signal flasher is an option since they run on different circuit (batt v ign) - that's a safety thing.
The smart people will fillow:)
As Obi-wan (Edward B) told me several times during this build, don't quit.

Thank you so much for the advice. I have been playing around with it for a little while now. All fuses are good. Both flashers work, and by that I mean they both work for turn signal and neither work for hazard. No wire coming from the flasher seems to be working. I also tried the one from the hot rod column but to no avail.

How is your hazard switch wired? This usually were people typically have issues. The hazard switch is a dual pole, single throw (on-on) switch. There are six pins in the switch (three rows of two). The hazard wires go on two pins at one end (either will work) of the switch. The pink (feed) wires go on the two center pins. The two remaining pins on the opposite end of the switch are left with nothing on them.

That is how I had it wired, but now to figure out what is wrong I have just been touching the three wires together.
