View Full Version : Tail light brake converter location

Where did you all splice into your rear wiring harness to add the rear brake trailer wiring converter? I read about options behind the dash as well as others that splice in to the harness in the rear, generally somewhere between the fuel tank and the IRS/rear axle.
Also curious what you used for the unions? Butt connectors and shrink wrap?

I may have done it in a silly way but here goes...I recieved two of the trailer converters with my kit and used one on each of the rear corners. Having read that they sometimes fail/burnout I wanted them accessible to be changed out if necessary. I bought two small plastic waterproof junction boxes (see below) and mounted them high up on the outside of the rear trunk aluminum behind the elephant ears. Connected using solder and shrink wrap. Tight fit in the box (i had to trim the rubber tabs on either side of the converters a bit) but so far so good.

I also went behind the dash, hooked up with WAGO conncetors to make a swap "easy" if it ever became necessary. But I am praying it's like TedG says and never need to get to it.

Where behind the dash did you guys put it? Above the drivers footbox or somewhere behind the dash, generally on the drivers side?
Also any pics of your wiring? I’ve got the diagram Scrubs shared, but I’m just looking for a confirmation as I’m a wiring noob!

Let me get home. It was at the firewall. Will send pics when I get a chance. ....it was snug wiring
