Hello all,

I am picking up my kit next week! Has anyone put cargo insurance on the parts while in transit?

I never have. I believe in Mass anyways the cargo is insured as part of the vehicle insurance. I could be wrong but for years I have trailered cars, kits, construction equipment, etc. under the pretense that it was already covered.

My vehicle insurance only covers $200 for cargo. Lol

Call Robbin at Midwest Classic Insurance and go ahead and get a policy. That way you're covered hauling it home as well as while you're building it.

This is a question I thought about last week too. I know there are plenty of options out there once the car is built/titled/registered, but how do folks normally insure the kit while it's being built? Maybe I need to re-read my homeowners policy to see if it would be covered under "contents"....but I'd be surprised. And even if so, the limit would probably be too low!

Your homeowner's insurance will very likely NOT cover the parts during build. Probably not very likely that you'll have anything stolen from your garage, but what if you have a fire in your garage? I got my insurance after my first start because I was a little worried about fire. I went with Robbin at Midwest and my coverage was just over $400 for the year. This includes up to $50k of loss and a few other things.
