I have recently completed my MK4 build. I installed power steering and find it is super sensitive. I understand that there is a method to trim a spring which will reduce the pressure of the pump. I am looking for some guidance on how this is done. Also what not to do, if that factors in.

Thanks!

What are your alignment specs?

What Rich said. I also just completed my build (well almost) and my steering is very sensitive too. I have not got my alignment yet but know I have too much toe-in. I am sure my sensitivity is because of that.

As said, get the alignment done and then see how it feels.

Power steering:
7-8 degrees positive caster
.5 degree negative camber
3/32" total toe in...make sure that it's toe IN, not out

Tire pressure 22-23 for 17 or 18 inch rims, 23-24 for 15s.

If you still feel that it's too sensitive afterwards we can help you with ways to reduce the assist depending on what pump you have.

Zero toe or toe out will make them twitchy and lacking straight line stability.

What power steering pump are you using?

I have a Saginaw PS Pump. I found that I had 28 lbs of air in the front tires, so I lowered it to 22. I am thinking about getting it realigned with the 3/32's toe-in before attempting to modify PS Pump. Your thoughts?

Yes. Even if the pump is modified a street car will track better with some toe in bs. Zero or toe out.

Thanks Jeff. I will post the results after a realignment. Based on weather conditions in Texas (HOT) - it may be a few weeks before I get it in for a realignment.
