View Full Version : Spraying Lizard Skin
Has anyone sprayed Lizard Skin with something other than their sprayer? If so what and how did it work out?

Lots of discussion elsewhere online about using undercoating type guns but I can't speak from any personal experience as to what works.
I have one here that came with a Fluid Film kit, I might try that to see how it works.

Lewis,
I bought the Lizard Skin spray gun if you want to drive to Brevard and borrow it. I haven't used it yet... but getting close.

Thanks for the generous offer Mark but I would not feel right using someones new tool before they did. I hope to make it up to see you before too long.

Nonsense... it's just a simple sprayer you'd need to cleanup after use with some sort of solvent. Or, if you can wait, once I get mine done I could let you know then do yours? Either way, just let me know.

Lizard skin needs to be applied in multiple coats, like 4-5 coats. IMO, it was kind of a PITA to use a sprayer for such a small area.
I went out in the garage after work for a few days and applied it with a cheap disposable paint brush. Stir the LS, apply a coat, and throw the brush away. All done in 30-45 minutes, with no overspray, and minimal clean up.

Hey Bob.... I have a few questions for you.
1. What did you apply Lizard Skin to? E.g., the inside cab, firewall, floor, what?
2. Did you do both the heat and sound product this way?
2a. if yes, what did you apply first, Heat with Sound on top or vice versa?
3. Finish quality? Do you have any picture you can share?
Thx Mark

Lizard Skin is water-based so cleanup of the gun is simple. Just have a 5 gallon bucket of water ready and take the gun apart and drop it in the water when finished spraying. Lizard Skin is really thick, so there aren't a lot of tiny orifices in the gun to clean. It's literally a couple minutes job to clean the gun. You certainly could roll or brush it, but personally I wouldn't base that decision on how easy or difficult it is to clean the gun.

I applied it on every interior panel. For both heat and sound insulation. Really helps the car to feel and sound more solid. And almost no engine heat will enter the cab.
It goes on like a heavy paint. Then you can use a body grater or sanding block to make it smoothish. Then just glue the carpet in place. I did put jute padding on the floor beneath the carpet for comfort.
I didn't take any pictures.

Thanks Mark, I will take you up on your offer. I've decided to do a mod for third brake light and get all the bad areas in the glass work fixed so it will be awhile before its need. I'll probably get up to see you before that. Thanks again.
