Folks,

I was doing the final torque on my driver side suspension assembly. For the upper ball joint the manual calls for it to be torqued to about 75. However, if I do that, the cotter pin is like a quarter inch below the castle nut, which means the nut can spin freely. If i back off the castle nut so it engages the cotter pin, there is literally no torque. I feel like either there needs to be a spacer in there or I need to whack the joint and have it pop out a bit (its under tension with the shock). I am not sure what to do here. Anyone else had this issue?

Thanks!
Dan

Hard washer or spacer under the nut so that the pin will engage.

Super helpful Jeff. Thank you. That did it. It puzzles me that this would be something we should have to hack. I can't see anyway you could do it on either side with out a washer. Or maybe some people don't get their ball joints as seated and this allows for that? I dunno, but, I will leave solving universal problems to people smarter than I am. Thanks for putting my mind at ease Jeff. I am grateful.
