Slop in differential

The differential has play. I can rotate the tires back and forth about 5 degrees with it in gearThis is a Blue print engine and TK5 transmission with the standard FFR 8.8 rear end. Is this normal. All parts are brand new.

You have clearence in 2 gears in the trans because of the counter shaft, unless it's in 4th and the backlash of the ring and pinion. What Mike said.

The backlash is before the transmission. There is no movement of the drive shaft when I rotate the rear wheels back and forth
